I'll have a go at this!
Here is my effort. At least it is the best so far!
Irish Christianity has been a victim to many external forces. It has been impeded by the Roman church, Viking invaders, English rulers, political ambitions, social movements, false accusations, Irish Catholicism, Irish Protestantism, modernist cynicism.
But we trust in a God who is the ultimate external force, and he has plans.
Dan's entry:
The Christian faith expanded in influence over many centuries to shape so much of the thinking and attitudes of the "land of saints and scholars." The re-discovery by Catholic laity of the Bible transformed many parishes and reinvigorated many evangelicals, who have trebled in number in the last 15 years.
Ascetcic monks, Celtic mystics, Roman Catholic reformers and Protestant imperialists. The story of Irish Christianity has been plagued by people such as these. And yet God has never utterly forsaken this small insignificant island, the product of numerous titans of faith, following the footsteps of its founding father, St.Patrick.
Well done Donal - the book is winging its way to you now.
